Adolescence is a time of discovery, excitement, and growth but it is also a period filled with challenges. For many students, school days are more than academics; they are a journey through pressures, expectations, peer dynamics, and the constant learning of who they are. It is in these formative years that resilience, the ability to adapt, recover, and grow stronger becomes one of the most valuable tools a young person can possess.
On May 3rd, 2024, MENTHALI visited Eleyele Secondary School, Ibadan, to bring this message to life. Our mission was to help 158 students understand resilience not as a vague concept, but as a practical skill they can use to navigate the ups and downs of daily life.
Through interactive discussions, relatable examples, and reflective exercises, the students explored how challenges are not just obstacles, but opportunities to build strength, confidence, and vitality. They were encouraged to share their experiences, ask questions, and see that setbacks do not define them—how they respond does.
By the end of the session, the students had gained more than knowledge—they had glimpsed the power of their own inner strength. The Ibadan Mental Health Project reminded everyone that teaching resilience early equips adolescents to face life with courage, clarity, and confidence.
It was a day of learning, reflection, and empowerment—a step toward nurturing young minds capable of thriving, no matter the challenges they encounter.
